Following the news of the White
House’s failure to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, commonly known
as Obamacare, US President Donald Trump promised that should the American
Health Care Act fail to receive a vote of approval from the House of Representative,
will go through with other legislative matters instead.
In recent White House news,
President Trump is set to sign an executive order on Tuesday at the
Environmental Protection Agency that will alter large parts of the nation’s
part in climate change regulations.
With Trump’s executive order, the
Clean Power Plan will be completely slashed, while also decreasing the original
budget of the Environmental Protection Agency. Meanwhile, present regulations
on energy products like oil, coal, and gas productions will be reviewed should
any possible revision needed to be made.
On an issue statement from the
White House website, it has stated the importance of energy to American lives
as well as to the world economy. It stated that “the Trump administration is
committed to energy policies that lower costs for hardworking American and
maximize the use of American resources, freeing us from dependence on foreign
oil.”
Throughout Trump’s campaign, he
has been vocal and made clear with his opinions against climate change green
regulations. The US president has promised to remove certain regulations that
limit the nation’s economic growth as well as holding back America’s energy
potential.
According to Trump, eliminating
climate change regulation will give more jobs to citizens, while also decreasing
the country’s reliance on imported energy products.
The White house stated that “President
Trump is committed to elimination harmful and unnecessary policies such as the
Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule. Lifting these restrictions
will greatly help American workers, increasing wages by more than $30 billion
over the next 7 years.” “The Trump administration will embrace the shale oil
and gas revolution to bring jobs and prosperity to millions of Americans,” the
White House added.
With Trump’s executive order of
lessening America’s major role in combating global climate change, this just
show the extreme difference in approach from the present President Trump and
former US President Obama’s political agendas for the country.
The executive order is set cancel
former President Obama’s executive orders aimed that fighting climate change,
as well as the nation’s involvement in the Paris Agreement.
This action taken by the White
House has been long dreaded by climate change advocates, fearing that the
absence of American – one of the largest countries in the world – from climate
change measures will drastically take a toll on previous and future efforts.
Meanwhile, an executive order
alone is not enough if Trump wishes to remove the rule, it will require
replacement if the administration really is against CPP.
